Benefits | |
Each VISTA Member makes a yearlong, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency while living in the community and on a low wage. VISTA Members benefit from all of the standard support of VISTA Members across the nation:
- A living allowance adjusted to the county in which the VISTA Member serves
- A relocation stipend
- Student loan interest payments
- Professional development
- Health coverage
- Childcare assistance
- An educational award of $4,725 or cash stipend of $1,200 at completion of service
- Non-competitive eligibility status
In addition to these benefits, Youth Service California offers a housing stipend of up to $350/month to help defray the high cost of living in California. Eligibility for this benefit depends on the circumstances of the VISTA Member.
Also, VISTA Members serving with the Cesar E. Chavez Service Clubs have the extra benefit of being connected to a state-wide initiative with ties to the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, CaliforniaVolunteers, KaBOOM!, and other agencies promoting service and volunteering. |
